Training + masterclasses

Audience Engagement & Visitor Experience training

Confident, empowered teams bring exhibitions to life—making museums and galleries more inviting, inclusive, and inspiring. A positive visitor experience provides the foundation for meaningful audience engagement, which then encourages active participation and a deeper connection.

Each organisation is different, so the training I offer is bespoke and tailored to your situation. We have a conversation first.

Whether you’re building a new team or revitalising an experienced one, my training develops confidence, empathy, and new skills around audience engagement and visitor experience.

Masterclass

Masterclass in Audience Engagement + Visitor Experience

Focused on active listening, rapport-building and questioning, the Masterclass also supports strategic thinking around interpretation, understanding audiences, accessibility, alongside challenging assumptions and managing tricky interactions.

It includes:

• a bespoke 3.5 hour masterclass at your museum or gallery

• one-to-one sessions with key staff

• A follow-up day (team development or leadership support, in person or online)

Very hands-on, tangible, and easy to apply to our work.

I also appreciated the meeting in the afternoon. Had the space and opportunity to discuss many issues that are relevant to our workplace. Thank you for your wise input.

Visitor Experience training

Grounded in research and developed at Tate, this dialogue-based training repositions visitors as active learners and participants around contemporary art.

A 2.5 hr training session, delivered on-site, this is designed for invigilators, volunteers and front-of-house staff. It focuses on:

Framing stronger questions

Using accessible language

Encouraging open-ended conversations

Dealing with challenging visitors

The Goulburn Regional Art Gallery team benefitted enormously from Gill’s Audience Engagement Training held onsite at the Gallery.

Gill brings with her a wealth of professional experiences in diverse institutions. She developed and facilitated the seminar with a deep understanding and empathy of the day-to-day professional experiences and interactions of the Gallery team in communicating and enlivening contemporary art with the general public. Gill used practical real-world examples that were relevant and facilitated hands-on activities that engaged participants.

The team left the seminar feeling encouraged and inspired in their work, with some refreshed skills in how to meaningfully engage with a range of audiences and participants.
